How To Remove Light Floor Scratches

On Ceramic & Porcelain Tile

What you need:

  • Fine Sandpaper
  • Vinegar
  • Clean cloth
  • Clear urethane sealant (liquid or spray)
  • Toothpaste

Steps:

  1. Clean the tile using vinegar and water. Leave to dry.
  2. Using a clean cloth, rub in a small amount of toothpaste (not gel) till the scratch is filled.  Leave to dry.
  3. Lightly sand the area with sand paper until it has an even finish.
  4. Paint or spray on a thin layer of urethane coast to seal.

On Cork Floors

What you need:

  • Wood filler (match colour to floor)
  • Cloth or rag
  • Polyurethane sealant
  • Wood stain (match colour to floor)
  • Fine sandpaper

Steps:

  1. Fill in the scratches with wood filler.  Leave to dry.
  2. Lightly sand the area with sand paper until it has an even finish.
  3. Using the cloth or rag, apply the wood stain. Leave to dry.
  4. Apply a thin layer of urethane coat to seal.

On Laminated Wood & Hardwood Floors

What you need:

  • Soft, lint free cloth
  • Car way or a wax crayon
  • White vinegar
  • Cloth or rag

Steps:

  1. Clean the area using the cloth or rag with the white vinegar. Leave to dry.
  2. For hardwood – Buff the scratched area with the wire wool until the scratch isn’t noticeable Run with not against, the grain.
    For laminated wood- Skip to the next step.
  3. Apply the wax in a circular motion using the lint-free cloth. Leave for 10 minutes.
  4. Using the lint-free cloth, buff out the wax in a circular motion.

On Vinyl Floors

What you need:

  • Rubber gloves
  • Masking tape
  • Cloth or rag
  • Liquid seam sealer
  • Lacquer thinner

Steps:

  1. Ensure the area is well-ventilated
  2. Put on the rubber gloves.  Use the rag to wipe down the area with the lacquer thinner.  Leave to dry.
  3. Place strips of masking tape around the scratch.
  4. Apply a thin layer of liquid seam sealer into the scratch.  Leave to dry.
  5. Remove the masking tape.

How To Remove Deep Scratches From Your Floors

On Laminated Wood & Hardwood Floors

What you need:

  • White vinegar
  • Cloth or rag
  • Lacquer sealer
  • Wood stain (match colour to floor)
  • Lint-Free cloth
  • Putty Knife
  • Wood Filler (match colour to floor)

Steps:

  1. Clean the area using the lint-free cloth and white vinegar.  Leave to dry.
  2. Press the wood filler into the scratches and use the putty knife to smooth the surface.  Leave to dry.
  3. With the cloth or rag apply the wood stain.  Leave to dry.
  4. Apply a thin layer of lacquer to seal.
